IEC Texas Gulf Coast
Formed in 1927, the Independent Electrical Contractor (IEC) Texas Gulf Coast Chapter is a productive association, composed of electrical professionals whose mission is to promote the success of all electrical contractors preferring to remain independent or open shop. Being the quality symbol for the electrical industry in Houston, the IEC represents over 200+ electrical contractors and over 2,000+ journeyman electricians, associates, and engineers. The IEC has been an instrumental tool in interacting with local, state, and national officials on legislation that has improved the industry, while simultaneously making the workplace environment safer. It is the IEC’s Executive Director and Board of Directors’ objective to keep its members apprised of the electrical market’s perpetual development.
Members actively support the education of their apprentices, journeymen, master electricians, and those in the industry who utilize their services. The IEC’s commitment to providing a quality workforce is not only reflected in its training for apprentices and journeymen, but also through business and management training for the contractor/company owner. More importantly, they are given the skills for a lifelong career and not just a short-term job.
Members can place apprentices in the 4-year apprenticeship and 2-year residential apprenticeship programs. Many other classes are available to both the contractor and their employees including estimating, project management, lien law, labor law, productivity, safety, and 4-hour Continuing Education classes. These are only a start to the persistent education offered at a member discount.

The purpose of the IEC is to acquire, preserve, and disseminate business information to its members and its trade. The association is to promote standards and regulations to be followed for safe work practices and quality construction in the electrical trade and to promote the general welfare of all independent electrical contractors.
